yes, I think a generic infrastructure would be great (although I have
to admit that at the moment I'm most interested in namecoin). When I
first posted on this list, there was already the suggestion to
implement a "secondary plugin infrastructure" that allows separate
Pidgin plugins to act as verifiers for Pidgin-OTR. (I think this is
the best approach, as it allows everyone to create a plugin for
his/her own verification method without the need to convince some
"verify plugin" maintainer that this method is indeed useful.)
I recently posted to the purple list about how to achieve this best
(communication between the Pidgin-OTR and other plugins) [1], and the
answer was that someone is working on integrating OTR right into
Pidgin at the moment and we will work out the necessary plugin APIs to
allow exactly this behaviour. Sounds like a good idea to me, I'm
looking forward to when this will be done! :)
