One of the issues identified in the user study is that people couldn't
figure out how to get to the "Authenticate buddy" menu item.  With the
button, you needed to right-click on the button to bring up the context
menu, which stymied a number of people.  They suggested to move it to a
menu (for which (left-)clicking is the obvious way to pull down a menu),
so that's what we did.

We'd also have to think about how to handle the
multiple-conversations-in-one-window case.
