My brother in Canada (Quebec) also using XP SP3, fully patched, is also
having the problem, as is my sister in MD (USA). Same issue with a few
other people I use Google with via Pidgin, plus they are having
problems with other people. If we switch over to Yahoo (via Pidgin),
no problems at all.<br>

<pre wrap="">I'm not seeing this at all using Pidgin 2.6.3 on Arch Linux. I've got
a normal xmpp account on jabber.org and my contact was using Gtalk
through Pidgin 2.6.3 on Windows.
You'll need to supply a bit more info. Client version, operating
system etc to get specific help.
