Trying to initilize a private conversation via irc fails without notice. When my buddy trys to initiliaze i get the following after issuing /otr debug: OTR: ignoring protocol message of length 8, acc=xxxx at irc.servercentral.net, from=xxxx: ?OTR?v2? I can not see why otr would ignore this message.? I had it working before, i deleted the contents of .irssi/otr/ to have a fresh start but had no success. software versions: irssi 0.8.13 libotr 3.2.0 Any help is greatly appreciated. thanks tom From a.sporto+bee at gmail.com Thu May 7 09:15:22 2009 From: a.sporto+bee at gmail.com (Uli M) Date: Thu, 7 May 2009 15:15:22 +0200 Subject: [OTR-users] irssi otr not initializing In-Reply-To: <4A017F8D.8010809@web.de> References: <4A017F8D.8010809@web.de> Message-ID: <20090507131522.GA6964@gmail.com> Hi Tom, On Wed 06.05.09 14:16, hammer wrote: > Hi, > > I am using irssi with the otr plugin on a debian testing system. > Trying to initilize a private conversation via irc fails without notice. > When my buddy trys to initiliaze i get the following after issuing /otr > debug: > > OTR: ignoring protocol message of length 8, acc=xxxx at irc.servercentral.net, > from=xxxx: ?OTR?v2? > > I can not see why otr would ignore this message.? That's not actually an error. It just means that a message came in that didn't produce any immediate cleartext output. The reason OTR didn't work for you is probably because key generation has to take place first. After your buddy initializes a session you should have a message about an ongoing key generation in the status window. A few minutes later there'll be another one saying that it is finished. Once that has happended you can ask your buddy to initiate again, then it should all work out. You should also check out the README file, it explains all the basics. Unfortunately there is no message informing me about keygeneration in the status window. That is why I misinterpreted the above otr message as otr ignoring any attempts to cummunicate privately. I installed pidgin with otr and also tried with two instances of irssi, but trying to initialize (choose from the otr menu in pidgin; "?OTR?" in irssi) a session does not give me the keygeneration message. Plaintext ist sent normally. I have absolutely no clue what I might be doing wrong or what might be misconfigured, as it worked just fine before for IRC and ICQ. I was pretty excited to see that this discussion was going on (even if it was not on a public list that I could follow). However its been 8 months since then, and I haven't seen anything come of this. Was there any progress that can be reported? It's still in the "work out the cryptographic details and have them vetted" stage, though; well before the "write code" stage. - Ian From christopher.lemire at gmail.com Sat May 30 16:34:22 2009 From: christopher.lemire at gmail.com (Christopher Lemire) Date: Sat, 30 May 2009 15:34:22 -0500 Subject: [OTR-users] Can't decrypt own messages In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: I thought maybe I was using an old version of pidgin-otr and libotr2, so I downloaded and compiled the latest, yet the same problem still occurs. I think there's one that splits up your outgoing messages into smaller chunks, for example? Anyway, they intercept the message that's about to be sent out (the _encrypted_ message), do something with it, and display *that*, rather than displaying the message the user typed. - Ian From christopher.lemire at gmail.com Sun May 31 08:46:58 2009 From: christopher.lemire at gmail.com (Christopher Lemire) Date: Sun, 31 May 2009 07:46:58 -0500 Subject: [OTR-users] Can't decrypt own messages In-Reply-To: <20090530214949.GG10826@yoink.cs.uwaterloo.ca> References: <20090530214949.GG10826@yoink.cs.uwaterloo.ca> Message-ID: On Sat, May 30, 2009 at 4:49 PM, Ian Goldberg wrote: > On Sat, May 30, 2009 at 03:34:22PM -0500, Christopher Lemire wrote: > > I thought maybe I was using an old version of pidgin-otr and libotr2, so > I > > downloaded and compiled the latest, yet the same problem still occurs.
