I just installed the windows beta of pidgin beta 7. Wasn't able to get
OTR to work after moving the plugin to the new .purple directory. Has
anyone had any luck?

I haven't had time to look at it yet. It would have been easier if FC6
would have had pidgin as an update, since I don't want to install an FC7
beta yet.

I do know that building gaim-otr on the Fedora Extra systems failed,
probably because it is missing header files in a "mock" build.

I'm going to guess, since I haven't got to my dev system yet, that we're 
going to need to go through most of the OTR gaim specific code and 
rewrite it for pidgin specific code. I don't think it will be much more 
then a find-replace effort but you never know.

to port it over.  It's a quick fix.. Someone may want to go over my changes--- 
I've also only been able to test it on Ubuntu Edgy.  But I don't see why it
wouldn't compile on other distros.  Let me know.

Thanks it works here. I never used otr-gaim plugin before so I have a
couple of questions:
* In the main pidgin plugin windows I can't configure the otr-plugin
(the button is disabled), but in the latest official release that I'm
using on gaim-beta6 it works.
* I think you have already applied the official patches, right?

No.  This pidgin release was just the porting of the last version to
pidgin.  The new features (like fragmentation and i18n) will be coming
soon, but now they themselves need to be ported to pidgin.

On my side, I've built it, directly, and run it, flawlessly, on Solaris 
(Solaris Express, Build 63 - You can download it from 
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/downloads/sol_ex_dvd/ ).

To compile it, I just did : ./configure --prefix=/usr 
--disable-gevolution --disable-perl MAKE=gmake

(the gevolution tag and the perl tag come from my normal GAIM/PIDGIN 
build options - probably no effect on otr)

There is no pidgin-otr/gaim-otr packaged up for Fedora yet. I am
waiting on things from the otr team and the fedora build system for
Fedora 7 to stabilize.

Fedora now has gaim-otr-3_0_1-0_6_20060712cvs_fc7 which should work
with pidgin. For details see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=237669

Thanks to Stu Tomlinson for submitting a patch that made it easy to
work with the CVS version that is in use for the Fedora package.

Note that the package is still called gaim-otr, until the OTR team releases
a version under the name pidgin-otr.

(or was he really not online before, but wrongly listed)

Still, the error is confusing, *I* have OTR installed and a plugin that
supports otr. I guess this is happening because gaim is repeating
the unsend message. Perhaps OTR should be able to repress the
"?OTR?v2?" bounced messages? After all, i did not type that message,
I just clicked on the button.

I've not seen this behaviour of gaim before, where it echoes back to you
the network message that it failed to send.  But those echoes certainly
aren't being passed though the OTR plugin (nor should the be, really),
since the plugin would have replaced the "?OTR:AAID..." with an OTR
Error.

So I don't see how OTR could repress the bounced messages, since gaim
never passes them to it.

A while ago, I wrote an OTR library in python (using pycrypto) for  
use in a bot at work.  I've finally gotten around to extracting the  
OTR part of the code into its own bazaar branch, gave it an MIT  
license, and posted it here:

It's not especially well documented, and you probably need to tweak  
it a bit to integrate with a script, but I thought others might find

I just tried to use ICQ 5.1 with the OTR proxy.
But I can't even connect to the ICQ network when I set ICQ to use the proxy.
I used these settings in ICQ:
Proxy settings:
- with firewall
- with proxy

define proxy server: Socks 5
host:  localhost
port: 1080
no authentication
no ext. proxy IP
don't use proxy for name resolving (turning this on doesn't work either)



I also tried the HTTPS-proxy setting with port 8080, but it didn't work
either.

The strange thing is: When I set Gaim to use the OTR proxy (Socks5) it
works without any problems.

Did anyone get ICQ 5.1 to work with the OTR proxy and can help me?

I use Gaim 2.0.0beta6 and my bro' uses Pidgin, both with OTR.  Both of us have this issue, not sure if it's Pidgin/Gaim or OTR but thought I'd ask.  We are using multiple IM systems, Yahoo/Google Talk/AIM/MSN.  We exist multiple times on each others' buddy lists due to this.  I have him "grouped" on my buddy list.  When I talk to him on Yahoo, an OTR button is there.  If I then switch to Google talk without closing the conversation window, a second OTR button is there.  From this point, if I've established two private sessions to the same person (via different IM systems), and I attempt to close the conversation window, Gaim crashes (as does Pidgin for him if he tries it).  

This is a minor annoyance but I thought I'd share since it's easy to recreate the issue.

Thanks for the great OTR plugin, I use it daily.

I experience the same issue as well.  At least for me, it only seems to be
reproducible in Windows, and I found that I can avoid the crash if I open
the Buddy List window and click Buddies->Quit from there.

I have not seen this issue before. I've seen the double button (hard to
avoid due to gaim's design of grouping buddies), but I've never it crash.

Can you add me twice so we can crash my gaim/pidgin? PaulWouters at jabber.org

Yeah, that's a known bug that we haven't had a chance to squish yet.
It's related to the misfeature of pidgin that it groups conversations
from different buddies into the same window.  It's completely unclear to
me what should happen in the case that one of these buddies is, say, OTR
Private, and one is in the clear.  When you receive a message in that
window, how do you know if it was sent securely?

That being said, we can try to squish the crash bug before we figure out
what the correct behaviour should be.
