./configure --with-libotr-prefix=/usr/local/lib --with-libotr-inc-prefix=/usr/local/include --prefix=/usr --disable-gevolution --disable-perl MAKE=gmake

.. because of where libotr is installed and

/var/apache2/build/libtool --finish /usr/local/lib/pidgin

... because of the following admonition spewed by "gmake install"

libtool: install: warning: remember to run `libtool --finish /usr/local/lib/pidgin'

make seems happy but make install returns:
/usr/bin/ginstall: cannot stat `./es.gmo': No such file or directory

Any ideas where this is coming from? (es.gmo is not in /usr/local/share/locale or /usr/share/locale which is where I *think* it is looking for this.) The only thing I've found on Google is a reference to "gettext" but this is installed and seems to be working.

It makes everything easier aferwards... no need to run libtool on my system.

The only thing I see missing from the current build options you and I use for pidgin is that you lose the keyring support that Solaris builds in.

I haven't looked into which options should be used to enabled keyring support in the generic pidgin... have to ask about that one. :)

Giles,

OK, with a couple of minor adjustments, that worked:

./configure --with-libotr-prefix=/usr/local/lib --with-libotr-inc-prefix=/usr/local/include --prefix=/usr --disable-gevolution --disable-perl MAKE=gmake

.. because of where libotr is installed and

/var/apache2/build/libtool --finish /usr/local/lib/pidgin

... because of the following admonition spewed by "gmake install"

libtool: install: warning: remember to run `libtool --finish /usr/local/lib/pidgin'

... and /var/apache2/build was where I found a copy of "libtool". This last bit is probably terribly wrong somehow, but it appears to have worked.

Any comments on any bear traps I may have laid for myself are appreciated.

Thanks,
Lou

P.S. Giles, I also am with Sun.

Gilles Gravier wrote:

Hi!

For me it installs perfectly. I use :  ./configure --prefix=/usr --disable-gevolution --disable-perl MAKE=gmake

Then I gmake

Then I sudo gmake install

(ahem... I installed sudo too).

Note : I work for Sun : Gilles.Gravier@Sun.com . And I'm running b69 x86 as well on a 64 bit Acer Ferrari 3400 laptop.

I did read the TOS but I never get all that legalese thats in there. It turns out that the reason my account was suspended was a complicated situation having to do with my account being linked to my father's "Master Account" from when I first got it. I had forgotten that it wasn't just a free instant message account because I'd had it so long. He had some sort of trojan that violated the TOS and thus I got yanked to. That TOS is definitely scary though and has spurred me from switching off of AIM. I realized that I'm relying way to much on a service that is not reliable. Thanks again for your reply, sorry for doubting that OTR was responsible! -Ryan On 8/21/07, Sven wrote: > > Am Dienstag, den 21.08.2007, 14:19 -0400 schrieb Ryan Pollock: > > Hello All, > > > > My AIM account was just suspended for violation of the terms of > > service. Thanks for the reply.

Message-ID: <46D88718.8040301@gmail.com> I run Ubuntu Feisty Fawn (7.04), with Pidgin 2.10, and I can/not/ figure out how to get the OTR plugin working. I even reinstalled Pidgin to its default location (/usr/local/bin I think), and the plugin to its default location. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong; I don't get any errors in compiling (well, I didn't after I moved Pidgin). Does the plugin have to be installed in a particular place for Pidgin to recognise it? If so, where? I gave up after nearly an hour of trying. -.- Hopefully someone here can make sense of this. I'm not a newbie to compiling from source, but when the instructions aren't very specific, it's frustrating. The most common issues are: - You need to make sure you're using both pidgin-otr 3.1.0 and libotr 3.1.0. - You installed libotr into /usr/local/lib, but that directory isn't listed in your /etc/ld.so.conf. - Ian
